Big Refresh from Major Firewall Vendors
Every 3 -5 years there is a pattern where a number of the major firewall vendors refresh their whole range. This is that time! We have recently seen SonicWALL, Sophos, Watchguard and Fortinet all announce and start to release new ranges.

Fortinet are starting to release the Fortinet G series which replaces the F series with the 30G, 50G, 70G, 90G and 120G. These run on the industry’s first converged networking and security operating system. This single OS approach enables businesses to gain benefits of operational efficiency and unified protection from the seamless integration of Fortinet Solutions within a Hybrid Mesh Firewall architecture.

SonicWALL have announced their new range of the TZ280, 380, 480, 580 and 680 and then the rackmount models also are the TZ2800, 3800, 4800 and 5800.

Sophos over the last 6 months started to bring in their new gen 2 desktop models – the XGS88, 108, 118, 128 and 138 which feature enhanced energy efficiency, high-speed connectivity and options for fanless, fixed wireless and 5G. Paul Sillars has done a number of box openings on a number of the XGS108 and XGS138 in the Out the Box series.

Watchguard have launched their new Firebox T Series firewall which includes the T125, T145 and T185. There are likely to be some new rackmount units coming soon as well. These refreshes bring better performance and throughput.
All of these updates give far greater capability to deal with the increasing threats of the current times.
